Welcome to Children's Riot California.

Children's Riot was born in the golden state. There is much work to be done. California has a huge sex trafficking problem, especially when it comes to adolescents.  California – a populous border state with a significant immigrant population and the world's fifth largest economy – is one of the nation's top destination states for trafficking human beings.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC), the largest majority of the human trafficking cases reported in the U.S. each year originate in California. In fact, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are three of the ten worst child sex trafficking cities in the U.S. (California Against Slavery). Human trafficking is one of San Diego’s worst criminal issues —second only to drug trafficking.

Under Proposition 47, approved by California voters in 2014, child trafficking was deemed  non-violent and classified as misdemeanors -- not felonies.Jan 11, 2018

In 2018, over half (51.6%) of the criminal human trafficking cases active in the US were sex trafficking cases involving only children. (2018 Federal Human Trafficking Report.” The Human Trafficking Institute. Accessed July 31, 2019.)

In 2018, The National Human Trafficking Hotline received more calls from California. (Hotline Statistics.” The National Human Trafficking Hotline. Accessed July 31, 2019. https://humantraffickinghotline.org/states.
